Community Programs
As of 2022, 36 programs, including three provincial outreach teams receive funding to provide ongoing service and support to survivors of acquired brain injury and their families. ABI community programs are listed below under their respective service area (Provincial, North, Central, and South).

Provincial Programs
Saskatchewan Brain Injury Association (SBIA)
Advocacy and Support Services for Survivors and their Families
SBIA is a provincial grassroots organization supporting survivors and families. Its functions include: developing support groups and networks for both survivors and family members which may provide a vehicle for interacting with individuals with similar issues and problems; decreasing the social isolation that families sometimes face after a family member incurs a brain injury; serving as an information resource that aids in coping and adapting; and offering social support during crisis periods.
The Association offers educational events designed to facilitate and enhance the personal growth and development of survivors and family members and offers personal support to individuals who seek assistance with understanding and responding to the requirements of other community supports.

Phoenix Residential Society,
PEARL Program - ABI Community Residential Program
Phoenix Residential Society has developed an ABI supported living program consisting of both a transitional, supported apartment program staffed on a 24-hour basis and a supportive living service for individuals who are living in a home of their choice, who do not require 24-hour in-house support services. The goal of the program is to enable individuals with ABI to live more independently in the community by assisting in the restoration of as much functional ability and quality of life as possible.

Saskatchewan Prevention Institute
Child Injury Prevention Program
The Institute implements programming and develops resources to prevent acquired brain injury for children. Through its existing networks and partnerships, the Institute develops and/or enhances programming in the areas of falls, bicycle safety, child passenger safety and other relevant topics.

Northern Programs
Sask North ABI Independent Living Program
Serving former Prince Albert Parkland, Kelsey Trail, Keewatin Yatthé, Mamawetan Churchill River and Athabasca Health Regions
This program provides residential options for persons identified as having an acquired brain injury. The program will support individuals to find and maintain appropriate accommodation and ensure supervision and skill development is provided. Individuals will be assisted in exploring and accessing vocational and prevocational options within the community and encouraged to participate in rehabilitation services.

Northern Rehabilitation
Serving former Mamawetan Churchill River, Keewatin Yatthé Health Regions, and the Athabasca Health Authority
Northern Rehabilitation provides rehabilitation supports throughout the remote northern regions. These services are provided through the former Prince Albert Parkland Health Region. Services provided include: community development, case management and education and prevention activities.

Speech Language Pathologist

This position has a base office in Melfort, while providing services throughout the Region. In addition to specific speech/language services, this position also acts as a case co-ordinator and facilitates community development initiatives, working closely with the Sask North ABI Outreach Team.

East Central Saskatchewan Association for the Rehabilitation of the Brain Injured (SARBI)
Serving Kelvington
East Central SARBI provides an individual rehabilitation program designed for adults with an acquired brain injury. Volunteers, under the guidance of staff, professional therapists and consultants, play a central role in the rehabilitation services provided to the client. There are currently SARBI programs in Saskatoon, Regina and Kelvington. East Central SARBI also provides life enrichment through individual program planning and summer programming.

Central Programs
Multiworks Vocational Training Corp.

Multiworks is an organization that offers vocational and residential options to persons with developmental disabilities and acquired brain injuries. Components of the program include life skills, vocational/avocational, social, educational and stroke groups. There is no age restriction for these support services, with a focus on individualized preparation for community integration.

Lloydminster & Area Brain Injury Society (LABIS), Lloydminster
Serving the former Prairie North Health Region
The Lloydminster & Area Brain Injury Society (LABIS) is home to the Life Enrichment Program (LEP), offered free of charge to survivors of Acquired Brain Injury. The program runs from 10am-4pm Monday and Wednesday, with an extension of the program on Thursdays, open to those members of LEP that live independently. All of the activities that the LEP group does are designed to reinforce, maintain, and advance memory skills, and/or promote, encourage, and foster social and recreational capabilities.

Radius Community Centre for Education & Employment Training, Saskatoon
Community Integration Service: Children, Youth and Young Adults with an ABI
Serving the former Saskatoon Health Region
The Community Integration Service (CIS) provides transitional community integration support through meaningful social and recreational experiences in the client’s community. The support is intended for school age children and youth, including young adults up to 30 years of age who are not in school, who have a diagnosed moderate to severe Acquired Brain Injury.
Services are based on client goals and are delivered in person or, virtually as required, through:
- the provision of a one to one community support worker that meets weekly with the client for community activities
- weekly social recreational small groups:
- Summer Fun Program – offering a variety of individual and small group activities in July and August
- Sports for Life – intended for older youth, aged 18-30 years, offered during fall and spring
- Youth Art Program – in-house or community art activities offered during fall and spring

Saskatoon Crisis Intervention Service, Saskatoon
Serving the City of Saskatoon
Crisis Management Service (CMS) provides crisis intervention, service coordination and crisis management to individuals with acquired brain injury and their families, when crises persist and a high level of risk is present. CMS provides practical and proactive assistance to this group until the risk is reduced and mainstream services can be arranged. Consultation services are also available to other service providers and supports.

Partners in Employment - ABI Supported Employment Program
Through Partners in Employment, SaskAbilities Saskatoon Branch provides supported employment services to individuals with an acquired brain injury. The Employment Specialist for the ABI program develops, implements and adapts individualized training plans with clients in order to improve their success in employment. In addition, the Employment Specialist provides job development services and supports to clients and their employers in order to support the long-term success of workers in their jobs. Individualized training plans may include resume writing, interview practice, vocational/workplace assessments, mentor/job coaching support as well as ongoing follow-up services from the Employment Specialist.

The ABI "Moving On" life enrichment program is a partnership between Sherbrooke Community Centre and the Central ABI Outreach Team. The purpose of the program is to work with survivors of ABI to develop independent living skills to enable access to other programs through:

- Developing basic money management skills
- Providing education regarding ABI and other relevant topics

Partners in Employment - ABI Supported Employment
Partners in Employment, the employment services division of SaskAbilities provides Supported Employment services to individuals with an acquired brain injury. Appropriate individuals for the service have the interest and skills necessary to pursue employment in their community and demonstrate a willingness to participate. The service guides and supports individuals through the process of obtaining and maintaining employment. Clients receive programming on an individual basis that may include: developing employability skills, preparation of a resume and interview skills, managing changes at the work place, job coaching, and attaching clients to the labour market. ABI Supported Employment clients benefit from ongoing individualized support, which serves to assist them in finding, securing and maintaining employment.

Mobile Crisis Services Inc. (ABI Program)
Serving the City of Regina
This program provides services including case management and service coordination to survivors of ABI and their families. Crisis Intervention services provide a larger safety net for this group and their supports. The ABI Program at Mobile Crisis provides intense, proactive community help to this group who are unable to get their needs met through mainstream services. The overall goal of this program is to facilitate community reintegration by linking with the appropriate resources.

Life Without Barriers
This program was developed in the southeastern part of the province (Yorkton and surrounding communities) to facilitate independent living for survivors of acquired brain injury.
