The Mayo-Portland Adaptability Inventory – 4th Edition (MPAI-4) was designed to provide an indication of challenges or impairments experienced by clients in their activity and participation, and also assist in the evaluation of rehabilitation programs designed to serve them.
The MPAI-4 is one of two client outcome measures that ABI Partnership funded programs are expected to collect and submit to the ABI Provincial Office at the Ministry of Health.
Training
As part of the roll-out of the revised protocol, the ABI Outcomes Working Group (with representatives from across different program types) recommended that training accompany it. You will see four training videos below that give information on the new protocol and how to administer the MPAI-4. The ABI Provincial Office would like to thank Celeste Boucher from the South ABI Outreach Team for creating the adult and pediatric case scenarios to best illustrate how the MPAI-4 can be used with clients.
Protocol
A revised protocol took effect April 1, 2019. With this new protocol, all programs are expected to administer Intake and Time 2 measures to their clients. This will allow the ABI Provincial Office to look at client improvement occurring across all ABI program types. You can click the links below to download the new protocol documents, the MPAI-4 inventory paper form, and the manual.
In order to: 1) make the scoring of MPAI-4 easier for service providers and 2) to provide service providers with a user-friendly report of the inventory results, the ABI Provincial Office created a Mayo Scoring Tool (an Excel file). When item ratings are entered into this tool, a client report can be generated for your program. This tool can be used to submit results to the ABI Provincial Office. The MPAI-4 Scoring Tool and the Excel file Optional Tool to Track Anniversary Dates can be downloaded from the log-in section of the website, ABI Partnership Staff Resources webpage under Section Reporting_MPAI_4, or by contacting the ABI Provincial Office.
Information about the new protocol and instructions for how to use the Mayo Scoring Tool are shown in the Protocol Video below.
